Translations

trans.jpg

May 25 - June 23, 2014
Written by Brial Friel
Directed by Ryan Wagner

In the early 19th century, thousands of British soldiers marched into Ireland to execute the first geographic survey of Ireland. Their orders were to translate every Gaelic place name into English, effectively erasing centuries of Irish history and culture. Translations tells the story of a small community of impoverished, Irish farmers and the British soldiers who set up camp in their village. As the two cultures collide, the severe language barrier between them prompts humor, strife, and ultimately tragedy.

A Bright Room Called Day

abrcd.jpg

August 17 - September 17, 2014
Written by Tony Kushner
Directed by Jeremy Lelliott

In A Bright Room Called Day, Pulitzer, Tony and Emmy Award-winning writer Tony Kushner examines Berlin’s reaction to the rise of Hitler in 1932. Through its provocative, fantastical and audacious look at history, Kushner’s incendiary play challenges not just the German culture at the time, but the status quo of here and now. Originally produced in 1985, this new production combines the lyricism of Kushner’s words with an eclectic soundtrack and choreography.

Love's Labour's Lost

lll.jpg

October 12 - November 10, 2013
Written by William Shakespeare
Directed by Ted Barton

Three noble companions take an oath to devote themselves to three years of study, promising not to give in to the company of women – one somewhat more hesitantly than the others. He reminds the king that the princess and her three ladies are coming to the kingdom, and when the king and his men meet the princess and her ladies they all fall comically, instantly in love. Love’s Labour’s Lost abounds in sophisticated wordplay, puns, literary allusions, and clever pastiches of contemporary poetic forms.
