"Sometimes history's just not ready for you and so you give it a shove."

Naomi Wallace’s prescient 1995 drama follows the lives of a group of workers laboring at a slaughterhouse. As the work gets tougher and more dangerous, their wages are cut, and benefits reduced. Wallace weaves together instances of consensual abuses and permissions, tragedies and triumphs to bring together often disparate stories of race, gender, and class.
